When I started making Beaker, I guess it was only a matter of time before someone asked me to make his trusty sidekick, Bunsen Honeydew.
The only problem was that when that time did come, I couldn't find a pattern for Bunsen anywhere. Whilst everyone knew and loved Beaker, Bunsen never quite acheived those same lofty heights of fame and recognition so a pattern for Bunsen was similarly elusive.
But instead of saying 'no I couldn't do it' to the customer, which not only would be a lie but would also just be another way of saying 'no I can't be bothered taking the time to create a pattern', I said yes. I mean, how hard could it be?!
And then I realised, that I already had everything I needed to make a pattern. Apart from his head, Bunsen is pretty much identical to Beaker but with a couple of colour substitutions and the odd subtraction of a row or two to make Bunsen shorter than Beaker.
Yes, there were a couple of trial and error episodes in order to get Bunsen's head to roughly a proportion of the body that I liked. But after that, it was fairly smooth sailing.
For me personally, I get so excited when I've created something new. Plus there is the satisfaction of successfully piecing patterns together to create something altogether different.
One problem I do have though, is that I get so caught up in the execution that I often forget to write down every step I've taken on the new pattern. So that when I come to have to make the new pattern again, I'm a little bit - ummmmm what did I do again??? Haha.
What have been your experiences with trying something new?
